ammunition dump and set off an explosion that killed 18 members of the force last Wednesday.
Global Security, a Western research organization, said the base at Khorramabad houses much of Iran’s force of Shahab-3 missiles.
The Pasdaran said nothing about the missiles in announcing the explosion, referring only to an ammunition depot.
Yadollah Buali, the Pasdar commander in Lorestan province, said, “The accident happened at 11 a.m. due to a fire that reached an ammunition depot and caused an explosion. He didn’t say what kind of ammunition or how much of it was stored there. Nor did he say what cased the fire.
He said 14 men were injured in addition to those killed.
There were immediate rumors that the explosion was set off by terrorists, as there have been several recent actions by Kurdish rebels farther to the north in recent weeks. Khorramabad, however, is well south of area of Kurdish concentration.
