The Islamic Republic has repeatedly demanded that the UN Security Council condemn the assassination last month of an Iranian diplomat in Yemen. The Security Council has ignored the appeal—as it has ignored other Iranian appeals for UNSC statements. But Secretary General Ban Ki-moon’s office issued a statement condemning the crime and expressing condolences. Ban has done this before when Iran called for UNSC action and the UNSC ignored Iran.
