After being locked away from public view for almost 4-1/2 years, the crown jewels are once again open to the public. The museum was closed in March 2020, ostensibly because of the coronavirus.

After being closed four years and three months, the museum a gigantic vault in Bank Markazi reopened to public visitors June 10. The reopening squelched rumors that major parts of the collection, like the Kiani crown used by the Qajars and the Pahlavi crown (above) used by the two Pahlavi Shahshad been stolen or sold off.

The collection also includes silver buckets filled with loose jewels and a globe almost four feet in diameter made with 34 kilos (75 pounds) of gold and 51,000 jewels. The collection was closed after the revolution and re-opened in 1992 before closing again in 2020. The British crown jewel collection pales beside the Iranian collection
