IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano said Friday that Fereydun Abbasi-Davani, head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, had invited Amano to visit.
“Dr, Abbasi invited me to Tehran,” Amano said. “I will consider visiting Tehran at an appropriate time, but a constructive, concrete result is needed.”
Abbasi-Davani visited Vienna last week, where the IAEA is headquartered. The Iranian media portrayed the visit as a very useful and important meeting.
But Amano described a very routine meeting with each side setting out its stated positions. As for what resulted from the meeting, Amano said, “We agreed to continue the dialogue.”
Abbasi-Davani called the visit “very good” and “transparent,” using a term that has been very popular in Tehran in recent years. He also told reporters that he and Amano “don’t have differences of view.”
