Domestic airfares rose 65 percent last week with no advance warning to fliers.
Abdol-Reza Musavi, head of the Iranian Airlines association, said the price hike was essential because airlines no longer receive subsidized foreign currency and must pay must pay much more now for imported parts.
He said the airlines had asked to boost ticket prices by 100 percent, but the Supreme Council on Aviation only approved a hike of 65 percent.
Airlines were complaining even before the collapse of the rial this year. The complaints started after fuel prices were tripled in December 2010.
