The Majlis Education and Research Committee says that 4.5 million students are currently studying in Iranian universities while 4 million graduates of those universities are currently unemployed. It said that unless the state takes action to revive the economy, there will soon be more unemployed graduates than students. The number of students enrolling in colleges this fall declined for the first time in memory. The main reason is assumed to be the realization around the country that a university degree no longer gives assurance of a job.
