Iran’s birth rate is still falling despite Supreme Leader Ali Khamenehi’s proclamation in July 2012 that Iranian women have more babies. Mohammad Nazemi-Ardakani, the head of the National Organization for Civil Registration, which records births, deaths and marriages, announced that the birth rate is still falling but gave no statistics. Khamenehi last year disbanded all of Iran’s birth control programs and called for Iranian families to be bigger.
