Gen. Mohammad Pakpur (photo), the commander of the Pasdar ground forces, said his troops have “destroyed” more than 12 groups of terrorists in the southeast over the last 17 months since Now Ruz in 2012. The announcement was supposedly meant to underscore how effective his troops are. But it also showed how large the opposition is. Pakpur said the combat took place in the “southeast,” which was presumed to mean Sistan va Baluchestan province. He didn’t name any opposition organizations, but it was assumed he was speaking of Jundollah, which has operated against the regime for the better part of the last decade.
