Saeed Mortazavi, implicated in the deaths of several detainees when he was Tehran’s prosecutor, has been dismissed by the Rohani Administration in one of its first acts.
President Ahmadi-nejad had tried to protect Mortazavi by naming him a few years ago to run the Social Security Organization in the Ministry of Social Welfare.
Mortazavi was implicated in the beating deaths of at least three young men arrested in 2009 during the post-election protests and confined at the Kahrizak detention center. He was also implicated in the beating death of Zahra Kazemi, an Iranian-Canadian dual national, in 2003. In all those cases, he produced false documents attesting that the deaths were due to disease or accidents.
First Vice President Ashaq Jahangiri also acted on his first day to block implementation of several last minute approvals by the outgoing administration.
