The Energy Ministry has announced that the water level in Lake Urumiyeh has risen by 24 centimeters (9 1/2 inches) in the 11 months. There was no explanation for the rise in the level of the lake, which has been shrinking for years. Construction on a plan to divert water from the Aras River to Lake Urumiyeh just began last month.
