The Louvre has announced plans to show a selection of works in cinema, literature and contemporary arts created by three veteran international artists from Islamic countries.
Nobel Prize-winning Turkish novelist Orhan Pamuk and Lebanese artist Walid Raad are the two other artists invited.
According to the museum website, the museum’s festival of contemporary Islamic arts, titled Cartes Blaches, is to provide an opportunity for visitors to review contemporary Islamic arts and culture as the museum opens a brand new hall of Islamic art dating back over the centuries.
The festival will screen several films by Kiarostami as well as discussion panels running for several days in October and December.
As a filmmaker, painter, designer and photographer, Kiarostami has received many prestigious international awards, including the 1997 Cannes Golden Palm award and the 2008 Glory to the Filmmaker award of the Venice Film Festival.
The Cartes Blaches Festival opened September 21 and will run until next spring.
