It said there were 16 crashes involving scheduled airliners around the world in 2011 with 330 fatalities. The year’s worst crash was an Iran Air Boeing-727 that crashed January 9 during a snowstorm after it was turned away from the airport at Urumiyeh because of the bad weather. A total of 78 of the 106 persons aboard were killed. That was 24 percent of all those killed anywhere in the world aboard scheduled airliners.
