The prosecution originally sought to charge the man with attempted murder. But the court has agreed only to accept a charge of assault.
Most newspapers did not name the man, saying only that he had worked for a major medical institute in Stockholm. They said he is now employed by a university in Tehran but lives part of the time in Stockholm where he collaborates with his old research team at the university there.
The news outlet Avpixlat, however, named the man as Hojattollah Rabbani and said that he has no regrest for what he did.
