The population as of November was 74,961,702, the Statistics Organization announced.
Last spring, however, the Statistics Organization had announced that the population had passed 75 million just before Now Ruz. That was based on estimates of the growth rate since the last previous census in 2006.
The Statistics Organization said the population is continuing to leave the villages for city life with 71 percent now living in urban areas, up from 68 percent in the previous census.
Average family size has also dropped significantly as couples have fewer children. The average family now has 3.6 members, down from 4.1 in the 2006 census.
