Brigadier General AmirAli Hajizadeh, the commander of the Pasdar Aerospace Force, says there is a missile stockpile in “every city” in Iran and those depots are built 500 meters underground. That is 1,640 feet or almost a third of a mile and simply is not a credible statement. Speaking to the state broadcaster, General Hajizadeh said, “There are few cities in Iran that do not have a missile depot.
Iran’s missile cities are 500 meters underground.” “The number of our missile cities is so high that, if they are detected, they [the enemies] will not be able to confront them. What you see is like the tip of an iceberg,” he added. “Iran’s missile tunnels make the latest spy radars tired,” the commander of the Aerospace Force said, without explaining what radars have to do with locating underground tunnels.
Iran has spoken for years about storing its missiles underground. And it has often shown videos of some very impressive, large tunnels. It has also shown video of an underground launch center with missiles being raised so they can be fired through an opening into the sky. The deepest mine in the world is the Mponeng Gold Mine in South Africa, which is 4.0 kilometers (2.5 miles) deep.
But few mines are more than a few hundred meters deep. Building tunnels 500 meters deep in “every city” in Iran would be a huge and very expensive undertaking.
