Although most attention has focused on funds frozen in South Korea, Iran has in recent weeks been paid almost $2 billion that he US was trying to keep out of Iran’s hands. Iran got $1.7 billion that had been frozen in Luxembourg for years as American “victims of terrorism” sought to seize the funds. The Supreme Court of Luxembourg finally ruled they could not do so. In another case before the Iran-US Claims Tribunal in The Hague, the US paid Iran $43 million related to the Iranian assets that the US failed to turn over to Iran in 1981 as part of the hostage settlement
