To “prove” it is not misogynistic, the regime this month put up a giant billboard in downtown Tehran, showing photos of about 60 prominent Iranian women, all cloaked in headscarves. In just hours, two actresses and a mountain climber loudly objected to their pictures being used. And others noted that pre-revolutionary figures like Forough Farokhzad never wore any headcover until the revolution forced them to cover up.
In less than 24 hours, the government took down all the pictures rather than risk more objections from more women, adding another PR fiasco to the growing list. The billboard is a gigantic one about four stories high that the regime erected in downtown Tehran a few years ago and regularly uses to propound propaganda.
