A total of 50 historical relics have been found recently at a construction site in Nahavand, Hamedan Province, announced the head of Nahavand Cultural Heritage, Tourism, and Handicrafts Department, Mohsen Janjan.
Janjan said the collection includes 50 objects related to the early Islamic period, Seljuk (12th and 13th centuries CE) and Ilkhanid (1256-1335 CE) eras.
The discovered objects include glazed plain pottery as well as pottery with designs related to the Seljuk and Ilkhanid periods, and iron and bronze utensils, including tallow stoves, goblets, pitchers and plates, most of which are related to the Islamic period, he said.
Known in classical times as Ecbatana, the capital of Medea, the city was subsequently the summer residence of the Achaemenid kings (553-330 BCE) and one of the residences of the Parthian kings. The site of the ancient city lies partly within the modern city of Hamedan and has never been excavated.
