Baghdad has asked Iran to help stop the continuing rocket attacks on Baghdad’s “Green Zone,” which is the government center and also houses the US embassy and other embassies.
Most of the rockets are believed fired by militias that are backed by Iran.
Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein told AL Arabiya TV January 18 that the missile attacks are embarrassing for the government.
“We are working with diplomatic missions to provide the necessary protection,” he said. Iraq has asked Iran to help stop those who target the Green Zone, the minister said.
The minister did not support calls for all American troops to leave the country. He said the country was still in need of coalition forces to confront Daesh, which he said was still present in border areas with Syria.
