Apparently rattled by the explosive reaction when mobs overran the British embassy in 2011 and the Saudi embassy last January, the office of the Tehran governor general announced Sunday that demonstrations planned for the following night in front of the British and Turkish embassies have not been given licenses and will not be permitted. The office said the police will act against any gathering in front of either embassy. It said any demonstration outside either embassy would be a criminal act.
