The new Hollywood film “Star Trek Beyond” is being redone at the last minute with the addition of actress Shohreh Aghdashloo as a new character added in an apparent effort to rescue the film.
“Star Trek Beyond” has been widely panned since its first trailer was released. The website Inquisitr this week reported the addition of Aghdashloo and said, “Her unique voice and screen presence is likely to push the drama into territory more traditional Star Trek fans will enjoy.”
Aghdashloo is rumored to play the High Commander of the Federation. Inquisitr said, “It’s not yet clear how much she will be featured, but she is likely to bring balance and reverse the perceived rock and roll direction taken by director Justin Lin.”
It said, “The early reactions to the movie’s tone and direction likely led to panic at the studio. Aghdashloo may be the remedy.” Everything will have to be done quickly as “Star Trek Beyond” is due in theaters July 22.
Aghdashloo won an Emmy for the BBC and HBO film “House of Saddam,” in which she played the wife of Saddam Hussein. She received an Oscar nomination for her role as an Iranian-American in “House of Sand and Fog,” starring alongside Ben Kingsley. She also won an award for her role in “The Stoning of Soraya M.”
She currently stars in “The Expanse,” a space drama on the Syfy channel, as an intergalactic politician.
In an interview on PBS, Aghdashloo said, “I was born an actress. Since I was four or five years old, I mocked each and every member of the family. After a while, it turned entertaining and sort of nice for my parents and family.”
She has also written a book about her life and career, “The Alley of Love and Yellow Jasmines.”
