The death sentence handed a forest ranger who shot and killed a poacher has been revoked and the ranger, Asad Taqizadeh, was freed last week after the family of the poacher who was killed withdrew its demand for the ranger to be hanged. Iran’s Supreme Court had approved the death sentence more than four years ago. News reports said three rangers had stumbled across five men hunting in Dena National Park in Kohgiluyeh va Boyer Ahmad province in 2008. They said the hunters fired on the ranger and Taqizadeh returned fire, killing one of the hunters.
