Last month, Russia fired dozens of cruise missiles from ships in the Caspian Sea across Iran and Iraq to targets in Syria. Iran made no complaint and appeared overjoyed at Russia’s involvement in Syria. Iraq complained that it had not been notified in advance of the cruise missiles. Last Thursday, Russia fired another 18 cruise missiles from the Caspian at Syrian targets. This time the Fars news agency carried a story quoting an unnamed military official as saying none of the missiles had gone over Iran. It appears there may be a number of people in Iran’s military who are not at all pleased at the idea of Russia using Iranian air space.
