Iran’s Drug Control Headquarters says the age at which Iranians begin to use drugs is now as low as 15. It said 1 percent of school age children are now addicts, a phenomenal rate, with many more using drugs recreationally. It said drug use in schools has doubled in the past decade. He cited curiosity and a false belief that drugs are not addictive as the main reasons. Others have complained that children resort to drugs because the state has failed to provide much in the way of recreational opportunities for youth.
