Supreme Leader Ali Khamenehi says the United States and Israel are playing a game of “good cop, bad cop” to intimidate his country into making concessions in the nuclear talks.
`“They make it seem like Israel wants to attack, but America is stopping it—the good cop, bad cop trick,” Khamenehi told officials Tuesday attending an iftar, the fast-breaking supper during Ramadan. “But I say out loud: the reason they are not attacking is because it is too costly. The enemy has no other options at its disposal but to make threats and impose sanctions.”
Actually, the cost of an attack or air raid on Iranian nuclear sites would not be great at all. It is an invasion and occupation that would be very costly. However, the Islamic Republic asserts that the United States invades countries to seize their wealth and make a profit, so the assertion that an invasion would be too costly for the United States contradicts Iran’s official stance on why the US invades countries and suggests Khamenehi doesn’t believe his own propaganda.
In a boost to President Rohani, who has been accused of being too soft toward the West, Khamenehi also said in his speech: “All should know that I support his government and use everything in my power to help it. I have trust in our negotiating team and am sure they will not give in on the rights of this nation.”
Khamenehi has regularly issued public statements of support for all four presidents who have served under him and consistently defended them from critics.
