Congress has passed legislation saying the United States should develop tighter ties with the Arabs around the Persian Gulf to foil Iran. This is only a “sense of Congress” resolution that has no policy impact whatsoever. It is congressional hot air. But it did not go unnoticed in Iran. However, what was noticed was that the nine-paragraph legislation used the term “Arabian Gulf” seven times. In fact, one member of the Majlis stood up and said the purpose of the legislation was to try to change the name of the Persian Gulf.
