The Islamic Republic has stopped talking about boosting oil exports and has now told the public that exports cannot rise under the interim nuclear deal with the Big Six.
The Iranian Students News Agency (ISNA) reported last week that a member of Iran’s nuclear negotiating team said the volume of Iran’s crude exports will remain at 1 million barrels a day, based on the interim Geneva deal.
“It is expected that based on the Geneva deal, Iranian crude exports will remain at 1 million barrels daily,” Hamid Baeidi-nejad told ISNA. He is the leader of the Iranian delegation in the technical talks that have taken place since the November 24 agreement was signed.
“The US administration has been trying to limit purchases of Iranian crude by buyers, so the buyers reduced their buys step-by-step. From now on, based on the deal, the efforts [to further reduce purchases] are to be stopped. Clients for Iranian crude must continue buying Iranian oil as they have done so far,” he said, correctly outlining the November 24 agreement.
For 2013, Iran has been averaging sales just a hair over 1 million barrels of crude daily.
