State television Channel One carried a report on the anniversary last Sunday that started by reporting: “On the anniversary of the September 11 event, security measures in America and Europe have been strengthened and a complete police state prevails.”
It carried video of two Americans, Richard Gich and Bryan Becker, who have been among the conspiracy theorists saying the Twin Towers were not brought down by planes flown by Al-Qaeda.
But in Iran, it is not obscure conspiracy theorists saying the US government was behind the destruction of the towers. President Ahmadi-nejad himself propounds that theory as a proven fact.
On the anniversary, he said the attacks “were actually a planned game to provoke the world community’s sentiments and find an excuse for launching attacks on the Muslim world and for occupying Iraq and Afghanistan, which led to the massacre of one million innocents.”
He also said the “arrogant powers” seek to promote war and strife throughout the world so they can sell more of the weapons produced by their armaments factories.
Ahmadi-nejad said, “The governance over the people in America and Europe is based on the system of slavery. The people in these lands have no democracy or freedom of speech.”
He said the rulers of the West “are like backward people who think because they have weapons they can impose their wishes with brute force.”
Gen. Masud Jazayeri, the spokesman for the military, said, “There is plenty of documentation showing that the US government and other global capitalist systems were involved in the planning of the incident that took place on September 11, 2001.
“And what has prevented the people of America from putting their criminal officials on trial is the influence of the Zionist media, which unfortunately do not allow the American people to understand the painful and behind-the-scenes realities of the governing system of their country.”
