The second natural gas
pipeline linking Turk-
menistan and Iran was completed Christmas Day. The short spur line is just 35 kilometers long.
The new pipe will enable Iran to import Turkmen gas into the northeastern corner of the country and serve the Mashhad area.
The current, 15-year-old pipeline links the two countries just east of the Caspian Sea and brings Turkmen gas into that region.
The new pipeline will boost Iranian natural gas imports from Turkmenistan from about 8 billion cubic meters annually to 14 billion.
