The government announced Monday that it had killed five Kurdish and five Baluchi rebels in shootouts at opposite ends of the country.

The national police said they killed five members of the Jaish ul-Adl Baluchi rebel band Monday in the neighborhood of Khash in Sistan va Baluchestan province.  They said they set up an ambush and opened fire as soon as the rebels came into view.  They said five rebels were killed, one got away. One police officer was also killed and a woman bystander was wounded in the exchange of gunfire.

The Pasdaran said they engaged in a shooting incident near Sardasht with members of the Party for Free Life in Kurdistan (PEJAK) that resulted in five PEJAK members being killed, including a senior commander.  The Pasdaran said two of those slain were the PEJAK members who last month killed two Basijis and an engineer in the region.
